Depart Samos from the port of Pythagorion and relax on the 2.5-hour crossing to the island of Patmos, 32 miles to the south.
Upon arrival, take a guided bus tour to the Cave of the Apocalypse, where John of Patmos is said to have received the visions he later recorded in the New Testament Book of Revelation.
Continue to the village of Chora to explore the historic Monastery of Saint John the Theologian for 1 hour.
Marvel at the fortress-like building, built by the soldier-priest John Christodoulos after the Byzantine Emperor Alexios I Komnenos gifted the island to him in the 11th century.
See rare texts and ancient iconostasis in the museum and get a staggering view of the island from the monastery complex at the top of the hill.
Return to the town of Skala, where you can find a nice spot for lunch and explore in your own time before the return crossing to Samos in the afternoon.
